What The Heck Is “Single-Origin” Coffee?
Single-origin is a small phrase with a big definition. The meaning is often simplified to a coffee that’s sourced from one single producer, crop, or region in one country.
In the case of Cackalacky™ Coffee, this means the Nariño region of Colombia. And, laying claim “single-origin” is all about having a deeper understanding of your coffee’s profile and how that profile is affected by what goes on at its origins.About the Nariño Coffee Growing Region
While each of Colombia's various coffee-growing regions has a distinct character in the cup, Nariño's unique climate conditions contribute to the special, sparkling quality of the coffees there. The dramatic slopes and valleys that comprise the landscape in this department have a direct effect on the temperature modulation that creates this high-acidity, super-sweet coffees: Warm, humid air collects in the lowlands during the day and creeps gently up the mountainsides at night, a combination that allows coffee to thrive at much higher altitudes than most of the rest of the country, as much as 2,300 meters above sea level.
About The Cackalacky™ Coffee Roasting Process
Technically, speaking, roasting coffee transforms the chemical and physical properties of green coffee beans into roasted coffee products. The roasting process is what produces the characteristic flavor of coffee by causing the green coffee beans to change in taste.
Through lots of trial and a little error with our artisan friends at Aromatic Roasters™, we found the perfect time and temperature roasting formula to perfectly finish the Cackalacky™ beans while creating a signature "robust" profile that is neither too “burned” tasting to mask the inherent botanical flavors of the coffee, nor, too light to detect the beautifully balanced caramelization that is indicative of a great roaster and quality beans.
